Learn how to recognize emotions underlying facial expressions by watching “Lie to me” on Fox TV
Psychology was one of my majors in college. I loved it! Especially when it came to reading about the research of Paul Ekman, the psychologist pioneering the study of emotions and their corresponding facial expressions.
I just came across a blog post by Ekman in the entrepreneur magazine, and I was pleasantly surprised to read about a new Fox TV show called “Lie to me” in his byline. Apparently “Lie to me” is based largely on Ekman’s research. Ekman is also the scientific advisor to the show.
I watched the 7th episode online and I have to say its excellent! It teaches viewers some great insights on how one can recognize the emotions underlying facial expressions and body language.
Check out the show, you might just learn something that could help you with your startup, VCs, or life. But as Ekman warns you may not always like what you learn. Interestingly the show deals with some of this by depicting the dynamics between people who can read emotions others may be hiding.
If you like the show and realize you’d like to learn more about these ideas check out the Online interactive tutorials offered by Ekman and colleagues at METT online. I sure will!
Oh, am I am not affiliated with Fox TV, METT Online, or Paul Ekman i.e. no one paid me to plug any of this.
