She’s Geeky 2009–feminine geekiness at its best
A woman only conference for women who lay claim to geekiness. Why a woman’s only conference anyways? And in tech, I thought there were very few women there to begin with, would this conference really be interesting and informative?
Those were my thoughts when my friend Adam Glickman told me about it. But then when I met Lynn Langit Microsoft Developer Evangelist at the Developer Influencers Meetup. Lynn helped me get off the fence about going. She had been to the first day of the Shes Geeky conference and told me that the conference has amazing brain trust. Aside: Lynn herself has done some life altering work developing an electronic medical record tracking system in Zambia. Lynn also said being women only the conference meant She’s Geeky had a comfortable feminine social interaction style which means 1) people are very polite 2) you are not immediately resumed or countered with a one-up attempt every time you share an insight.
That convinced me to go. And I’m glad I did. I met amazing women–driven to create community, success, and value; many of whom I will be following up with for my own projects. If your a woman and have not been to She’s Geeky in the past I highly recommend you go to the next one. If you are a man, do consider supporting She’s Geeky by donations, which go towards scholarships. And don’t worry we are talking about tech and business only.

Thanks, Sana, for a great write-up of how things happen here in the Valley. Lynn Langit is amazing. Women need a open place to meet and show that being Geeky and Techie is fine. Other great events/groups are Blogher, Women2.0, WebGrls, and Anita Borg. Men can be supportive of these groups. It is an honor to be around such smart and interesting women.
The world needs more strong voiced women! Best, aglick35
