Week in mobile–predictions and reactions
Is it the year of the mobile, is it not the year of the mobile?
Here are some recent headlines.
Go for mobile ads:
Mobile ads catch fire on iphone
AdMob touting this year as a strong year of mobile growth
Increased consumer mobile use this year
Mobile internet necessity, no longer a luxury
Economic downturn will create opportunities for mobile advertising
This last one is particularly funny since the consensus of mobile agencies at Internet2Go was, that mobile remains an experimental area. And with the economic downturn few companies will be experimenting. Instead, they will go to tried, true, and measurable search marketing.
1 maybe:
Mobile advertising edges closer to breakthrough
1 no’s in favor of other mediums:
Email, search, and display show strongest online performance
And my personal favorite. Individual brand success stories including a blog post by yours truly:
Mobile Hotel booking show ROI in recession
Adidas mobile campaign drove 290,000 visitors to mobile site
One thing is for sure, people are spending way too much time trying to predict a trend. Instead of spending time with prediction just study the individual cases that worked and figure out whether it will work for your target market. Like Gary Vaynerchuk from the Wine Library says, quit the predictions be reactionary.
