I’ve been watching what myspace does with its strategy and customer focus for a while. This has gotten some interest and lots of confusion from various techies here in Silicon Valley. In one particular case I felt compelled to share my stats on Facebook the next day to confirm that I wasn’t making up my numbers.
The link referred to above is a blog post from Nielsen.

As you know MySpace acquired iLike today. This new acquisition may be one way MySpace may be exploring how to increase user engagement with its music content and content creators.

MySpace seems to be focusing on music. Why? As you said, monetisation could be easier.
